December 2010 Elder Update

We live in interesting times. Uncertainty seems to be the only certainty. We live in interesting times. Uncertainty seems to be the only certainty. Words mean different things to different people, Christianity seems impotent to take on the challenges of society, and leadership seems to be more about power and authority for personal gain than purpose and the well-being of the people.

People in the banking industry say there is more money in banks than ever in our history. People are uncertain as what to do with their assets because they are uncertain as to what a leader who is good with words will actually do.

It is in this time of uncertainty that those of us who are children of the King need to live and demonstrate what is certain. We need to love God in the public square. We need to reflect His glory and funnel our nation towards that which is certain.

This year, we would like to ask you to consider acting on the following ideas.

    1. Spend some time this holiday season thinking of those you love and how wonderful it is that God placed them in your life.
    2. Take a walk one evening when the moon and stars are out, and enjoy some of God’s created handiwork. Sit for a moment and absorb the “bigness” of God and His universe.
    3. Hold a young child and pray for them, their future, and the future world in which they will live.
    4. Get up early and watch a sunrise.
    5. List the difference your position in Christ has made in your life, and share it with your family at Christmas.
    6. Read the Bible for an hour a day for the next thirty days.
    7. Read the VBC Advent devotional available at the welcome center. If you have a family, read this and discuss it with them.
    8. Listen to Christmas music that proclaims the true meaning of the season.

Thinking of loved ones, enjoying what God has made, dreaming of a better future for our children, celebrating a sunrise, remembering what our new life is really all about, and spending time with God in His Word will help put this holiday season into perspective.
