Sewing Ministry (Linda Mallette)

Posted by Keith Duff on

I (Linda) flew to Uganda a week before the rest of our team. While in Kampala I was able to begin preparation and sewing with Lilian (sport shorts) for the children at the orphanage in Mbarara. Mid-week we traveled to Mbarara to complete the short project with the ABIDE women. Lilian and I were able to teach the girls how to sew shorts. Wow!

They were so excited with their accomplishments when the shorts were completed for the children. The children will receive the shorts later in the week. I am sure they will be elated when they see the new sport shorts made just for them.

Next, the ABIDE girls, members of the VBC team, Lisa and I continued working on the finishing of (PJ’s) that women from VBC had been sewing since last October. A total of 250 pajamas and T-shirts were finally ready to be given out to the children in both of the JAM orphanages as well as staff children. A lack of continuous electricity put a challenge on finishing the second sewing project. However, many hands working together made the seemly impossible task transform into excitement of the children as they received their new nightwear (PJ’s).

Thank you, Village Bible Church women and so many others that were involved both at home and here in Uganda in the “Sewing Bee” for Uganda. What a Blessing the children received and yet there is more to come about dresses for girls. Stayed tuned!
