SHINE VBS Wednesday

Posted by Keith Duff on

We had another groovy day at VBS! Here are some of our SHININ’ moments! In Smokin’ Bible Adventure, we learned what it means to be fishers of men!

In Luke 5, Jesus told Peter and the men on Peter’s boat to cast their nets into the deep end of the ocean. Jesus’ directions helped the men catch an abundance of fish to sell. Peter, ashamed of not listening to God in the first place, bowed down at the Lord’s feet saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man.” Then Jesus told Peter not to be afraid because Peter will soon be a fisher of men. That means Peter will be teaching the Gospel and leading people to Jesus.

The crown of rejoicing is earned when we bring people together and choose to tell others about Jesus and be fishers of men like Peter.

Today in Groovy Missions the kids learned some new things about Ugandan culture. We talked about schools in Uganda, and how many students go to boarding school--sometimes even as preschoolers! We saw pictures of a few different schools, including the Juna Amagara schools. Groovy Missions also talked about what church can be like in Uganda. Sometimes in the villages people bring food from their gardens instead of money for the offering. The kids talked about how soccer is the most popular sport in Uganda. They got to hear a great story about how Max Duff's gift of a soccer ball on a short-term mission trip was a huge answer to prayer for an entire elementary school! It's amazing how God can use simple things to bring glory to His name! (Check out the pictures below!)

Let’s not forget our fundraiser! We’re still raising money to help support Juna Amagara's ministry with orphans in Uganda. Children may still bring coins or cash to add to our growing total of over $230!

We had so much fun learning about new ways to give God glory, worshiping to a new rhythm, and hearing more about Uganda…stay tuned for more tomorrow!
