Shining for Jesus (Rachel Herr)

Posted by Keith Duff on

There are many, many children in Juna Amagara, but one touched my heart very deeply. I was paired up with Jennifer Renee Wood's sponsor child, Mercy, to get to know her and give her the care package Jenny prepared for her. Mercy is a beautiful, talkative, expressive young lady who has big hopes and dreams.

She informed me that she wants to go to university (college) to become a doctor and help deliver babies! Her favorite subject is science, and she is an extremely hard worker. Mercy also informed me that she was an orphan. That both her parents had passed away and on school holiday, she would go "home" to her house. I was able to converse with her teachers and they all said she had incredible potential.

One evening, the P5 kids (sixth graders), had a choice between studying science or playing with all of us Mzungu (or white people, whom they love dearly). Mercy was very torn, so she asked me to join her class with her. I was very honored by this invitation and astounded by her participation. At every question, she would shoot up her hand and when she was called on, she almost always knew the right answer. Every time she saw me, she would run up to me and give me a huge hug. She loves little children, sewing, reading, coloring and drawing, playing with all the boys in football (soccer), loving on all of her friends, singing in the choir, reading her bible, and praying to her Heavenly Father. Please be praying for this incredible young lady.

It was so hard to leave her because everyone and everything she's ever known and loved has come for a bit, and then left, but she still shines for The Lord.
