Visiting Children in Mbarara

Posted by Kate Duff on

We went to the Juna Amagara Primary school here in Mbarara to pass out more sponsor packages.  We met Mercy first who is another girl sponsored by Jenny Wood.  She was able to read Jenny's letter herself.  She LOVED the chapstick and the emory board, once I showed her how to use them both.  I pointed out each family member in the photo Jenny sent.

We also met Jasper, who is sponsored by Laura Remes.  He was thrilled with his package of school and art supplies.  Great job,Laura!  We helped him put his name on the plastic file folder with the alphabet stickers.  How fun!

We had 2 home visits today and gave 2 other packages to kids at school. I love this part.... LOVE IT!!!

First we visited Anthony, a day student who lives close to the school.  He is sponsored by Jamie and Amy Benjamin.  He is almost 7 years old.  He lives in a community with many other families, so he has lots of neighbor friends to play with.  His dad died, leaving Anthony's mom with her two kids, plus two older step-children.  Given this situation, she didn't think her kids would be able to go to school.  But because of Juna Amagara and the Benjamin's sponsorship, Anthony is able to attend school and learn about Jesus.  His mom was so incredibly thankful.  Anthony's adorable four-year-old sister, Eunice, is currently unable to attend school, because of the cost.  If anyone reading this feels led to sponsor Eunice (or another child waiting for the opportunity to attend school) please contact Keith Duff ( ) or Lisa O'Brien ( ) and one of them can get you connected to the right people to make it happen!

Our second home visit was to meet a new child in the program who is now able to attend Juna Amagara schools as a boarding student.  Thanks to the sponsorship from Roger & Debbie Nieter, Promise will begin Term 2 (there are three terms) at Juna Amagara New Times Primary School in Mbarara starting in May.  So exciting! Promise's parents have both died and she lives in a tiny one-room 10' x 10' apartment with her grandmother (2 beds, a pile of clothes, and a few dishes). Her favorite color is red and her favorite animal is the elephant.  She was very tall--like her grandmother.  Her grandmother was a beautiful woman who enjoyed having her picture taken.  A total fashionista!  We enjoyed getting to know them both. So fun!!!!
