Kacerere home visits

Posted by Kate Duff on

We took a long hike to a nearby village, Kacerere, to visit two children.  (Any time we have told someone that we walked there, they are shocked that we would go on such a long journey!)  First we stopped to see Sylvia, sponsored by Jennifer Wood.  I am not sure if her mother was nervous or excited, or a combination of both, to have us visit her home.  She proudly shared some boiled corn with us to enjoy, and sent us home with some vegetables too.  Sylvia loved the little treasures from Jenny, and even showed us the last letter she had received from Jenny.  We pointed to each member of the Wood family in the pictures and shared their names.  I told Sylvia that she has the same name as Jennifer's grandmother.  Sylvia's mother shared that her husband had died leaving her to care for their 2 daughters, Sylvia and an older sister.  Sylvia's Juna Amagara sponsorship was an incredible blessing to their family.  Thanks, Jenny!!!

We were able to visit the Lund's boy, Nickson, again (the team had visited last June). In their letter, Melanie mentioned that their family verse was Philippians 4:13. Upon hearing that, his prayer warrior of a mother who doesn't speak English recognized it as a verse that her son has memorized.  So, in his sweet little voice, Nickson recited the Lund's family verse for us.  We all agreed that these two families seem to have a divine connection.  His favorite gifts seemed to be the flashlight and the sticker coloring book.  (Nickson couldn't keep from giggling when he saw the sticker with it's tongue sticking out!)  He seems to be a budding artist.  Nickson's father died of a stroke, leaving the mother with 5 children.  One child has died.  But Nickson's mother accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior after the father died.  And the JOY of the Lord was incredibly evident in this beautiful woman.

We also met Jim & Linda Mallette's sponsored child, Bruce.  We gave him the package Grandma Linda sent with us.  He is doing well and excited to see her again in June.

After these home visits we hiked an hour back to the guest house, sat down for lunch, and in God's perfect timing... it began a 24-hour rain!
