Welcome to Uganda! Meeting Annah & Jackson

Posted by Kate Duff on

We went to the market in Kabale town to do some grocery shopping.  We bought food for us to enjoy in the village of Kishanje, along with the staff members who would be hosting us.  Just to give you an idea of what prices are like, we bought three juicy and super sweet pineapples for the equivalent of about 50 cents each, and huge avocados for 20 cents each.  And of course they are all organic!

I got a chance to see the Kabale ABIDE house.  ABIDE is the main ministry of our missionaries Matt & Crystal Kehn, and VBC made significant contributions to the completion of this building. The students are on their mid-term break, but I was able to meet a few staff members who live there (Kenneth is pictured above).

Before leaving town, Godfrey Dutki drove us to a vocational school to see Annah, Hayley Roberts sponsored child. Hayley was one of our first Uganda Team members in 2010, and decided to sponsor a child after that experience.  In 2011 she was able to meet Annah and begin a deeper friendship.  In her school, Annah is learning hair dressing, and is looking forward to a career in that field when she finishes.

We stopped by the Rubanda care point to drop off the packages we had for the students there.  At this site, the students attend local schools with the fees provided by their sponsors, and come to the Juna Amagara Ministries program on Saturdays.  Because of this, we were unable to meet these children on this visit, but know the staff members will deliver the gifts.

Along our journey we also were able to drop off a letter for Jackson, who has been sponsored by Nathan Bonifas, another 2010 team member.  He was excited to receive a letter from his American friend.
